On 26 of September 2013, Valentina Țapiș, Deputy minister of environment had a meeting with international expert Paul Buijs from the EU regional project "Environmental Protection of International River Basins" (EPIRB).
Various aspects related to water sources management in the context of the Water Law were discussed in the meeting. At the same time, an overview of the activities carried out to the date in the framework of the project related to surface and ground waters monitoring was made, the discussions focusing on the development of the Roadmap concept regarding the development of surface waters (for physical and chemical, hydro-biological and hydro-morphological elements) and ground waters monitoring programs in line with the Water Framework Directive.
Another discussion topic was the organization in November of a regional training that would take place in Republic of Moldova, the subject being the Roadmap for the beneficiary countries participating in the project: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova.
Note: The goal of the "Environmental Protection of International River Basins" project is the efficient protection and management of water sources in the international river basins, especially in the Black Sea region, as follow-up to the activities carried out in the framework of international projects implemented in this region.
The general objective of the project is to apply the integrated water sources management principles promoted by the EU Water Framework Directive 2000/60/UE by developing River Basin Management Plans for the international rivers selected in a cross-border context by the beneficiary countries.
Expert Paul Biujs and CWME Victor Bujac visited State Hydrometerological Service, Agency of Geology and Mineral Resources and Hydrogeological Expedition from Moldova to inform and discuss with stakeholders about outline of Road map for the development of WFD complaint monitoring programmes.
